![]() Additionally, there are a surprising amount of in game side missions to do such as finding all 28 Shaman Spirits throughout the game, infusing all the Standing Stones and finding all the murals to better understand the story. The game has a surprising amount of unlocks that let you change Fox’s skin, all in game thankfully, with no additional ad-ons for purchase. If you are good at puzzle solving and that type of genre, Spirit of the North will feel fund and refreshing to play and figure out, and if you are not, the game does not make the puzzles overtly complex making you frustrated, it is a very nice balance. As a result, there is no real difficulty adjustment, maintaining a consistent tone throughout the game. The controls can be customized, but generally they are button prompts to interact with certain objects and characters that otherwise don’t need a lot of flexibility, which makes it simpler and more straightforward on what to do.Īs an adventure puzzle game, difficulty really depends on how good you are at observing environmental cues and solving them. However, time, patience and good controls get you through most areas while enjoying the scenery. While Fox is in his element exploring open areas, when the map closes in and more jumping based puzzles are introduced, Fox does have some clipping issues having to jump, and due to the way Fox moves (as a very well detailed fox) certain platforms can feel difficult to reach. However, the environmental cues are largely enough to figure out where to go. Due to the lack of dialogue and clear direction, there are at times where it can feel like you are running around not knowing where to go, and backtracking for no reason. ![]() I personally enjoyed when the map opened up and you could roam about with Fox, exploring different areas. While the gameplay and puzzle mechanics are not very difficult, there is a clear though on where to go and what to do that gives the game a creative flair to it.įox controls surprisingly well, navigating it the small forest creature around many obstacles and traversing surprisingly vast open areas, as well as some small areas. While in the initial stages of the game, you are accompanied by Spirit Fox leading the way, later on you have to intuitively figure out where to go. This largely creates a narrative based on exploration and figuring things out on your own. ![]() There is no NPC or quest giver handing out missions, the gameplay largely focuses on your control and navigation of Fox throughout various landscapes and environments, all very carefully laid out. There is no dialogue in game, and very limited text, meaning Fox has to figure everything out on his own. Spirit of the North takes in interesting approach to gameplay, being primarily a puzzle platformer, Fox, guided by Spirit Fox go on an adventure of discovery, companionship and nature. Since Spirit of the North has no dialogue in game, we do have two central characters, Fox and Spirit Fox, and with that, join us on our review of Spirit of the North While an Indie title, Jacob and Tayler are experienced in environmental design and it really highlights in their first solo outing. This is Infuse Studio’s first game, designed, developed and published by Jacob Sutton and Tayler Christensen, the founders of Infuse Studio. Foxes are my own favorite animal, and to get to play a game centered around one was a real fun treat. Spirit of the North, a new title by developers Infuse Studio takes us on a journey through a beautiful landscape inspired as a small adorable fox.
